line and structure

Line and structure are formal elements that I have always been attracted to, and which have been central to the development of my work. The quality and character of the lines, from the outline of a shape to the lines that make up a grid or woven structure, are a starting point. This comes from my early drawing experience. I’ve also been inspired by the drawing in space of artists like Ruth Asawa, John McQueen, Martin Puryear, Sopheap Pich, and others. My appreciation of structure has grown significantly out of observation and experiences with old architecture - eroding adobes and old Victorian walls revealing the lath underneath. I find these to be poignant reminders of human endeavor.
